These wines is a result of our ongoing search to produce the best wine from our fruit.
In creating the No.6 the aim was to make a wine that best expresses the quality and purity of the fruit that Welbedacht Wine Estate, its terrior and cellar has to offer. Small parcels from a variety of sites on the farm were hand selected and individually vinified in our cellar to allow the varietal charteristics of each cultivar to fully develop. After 18months maturation in 2nd fill French oak barrels the blend was assembled and returned to barrel for a further 9months to marry all flavours. The final blend consists of the following 6 varieties; Syrah Petit Verdot Malbec Mourvedre Pinotage and Viognier. Only 12 barrels of the 2006 vintage were made as a testament to our terrior and meticulous attention to detail.
Every winemaker relishes the opportunity to blend different varieties and to explore new flavour profiles. Creating this wine called Myra gave us the opportunity to capture the essence of the three white wine varieties planted to Welbedacht and of a Lady we all adore. Viognier, Chenin Blanc, from 40year old bush vines, and Chardonnay were hand selected in the vineyard, whole bunch pressed to insure only the finest quality juice and fermented in 500l French oak barrels to preserve each cultivars varietal flavours while gaining complexity from the oak. The final blend consists of 50%Viognier, 40%Chenin Blanc and 10%Chardonnay and truly reflects the exciting aromatics of Viognier, the purity and unpretentiousness of Chenin Blanc and the power and elegance of Chardonnay. A tribute to our first Lady, Myra Burger.
