Welbedacht Wine Estate one of the 25 Hand-Picked Wineries of the Year in South Africa!

03 May 2012

On a recent visit to South Africa, Matthew Jukes has named his Top 25 wineries from his trip and Welbedacht Wine Estate was named as one of them. It is also the only winery from the Wellington region to be announced in his top 25!

He had the following to say about the Wine Estate:

There are a wealth of wines to find from this unique estate and they are all underrated and enormously appealing.  2011 Sauvignon Blanc shows stunning minerality under a vivid green, tropical cloak of fruit. Amazing depth and precocity add to its appeal.  2008 Bush Vine Chenin Blanc was a spicy, nervy wine with subtle use of cinnamon-scented oak and tension.  2009 Pinotage (tasted out of barrel) was inspirational, grin-inducing and uplifting and it will no doubt wow all-comers.  2008 Syrah showed monastic calm and brilliant definition and this led to a spectacular 2006 No.6 named after the rugby position that the family has made their own.  This wine was hugely impressive, rich and mouth-coating and it would easily stand up to any Aussie or Kiwi version of this grape or indeed flanker!”
