Welbedacht Wine Estate Scores Unique Top Ten Double

24 April 2012

The well known and acclaimed Welbedacht Wine Estate, from Wellington, South Africa’s Top Wine area in 2010, has just scored a well deserved double in South Africa’s two most prestigious top ten wine awards.

Their latest award comes after the awards dinner held where their Welbedacht, 2009 Barrel fermented, Bush Vine, Chenin Blanc, was included into the prestigious first ever Classic Wines Chenin Blanc Top Ten Awards list. This follows hot on the heals of their ABSA Top Ten Pinotage award won the last two years.

Commented owner Schalk Burger: “we are very privileged and proud to do the double as both these cultivars I believe is where the future of unique South African wines should be. It is also testament to how 40 year old bush vines can survive and produce fruit of exceptional quality in the Wellington region.” He went on further to state “I believe that we are only starting to scratch the surface of wines that are made from grapes on our decomposed granite soils that allow for the beautiful integration of minerality and fruit which the discerning markets of the world now require. This is borne out by the fact that our Welbedacht 2005 Chenin Blanc is still winning awards!”
